Breaking News – directly from the German Federal Agency Chernobyl:
German foreign minister Steinmeier wrote a letter to Belarusian authoritarian president Lukashenko in Dec. 2008.
Reason: The Decree 555 of Lukashenko from Oct. 2008 in which he ordered all children taveling to stop. He can still travel, but the Belarusian children stay intervened. Read all about it HERE.
The result of the letter was, that Lukashenko himseld allowes children to travel till January 21st 2009. This time can be used for further negotiation. Right now, at the moment, the German Government talks with the Belarusian government about this subject – which includes an possible agreement not to make any more contracts and instead using the old system – which means basicially: Traveling is a human right.
The Belarusian Government wanted and wants not only to end Chernobyl with the stop of the traveling, they also want to end civil society.
But it was the civil society who brought up the scream and the tragedy of the Chernobyl catastrophe to the world public. Every child is ambassador itself.
