Belarus is the country which got most of the fallout from the Chernobyl explosion inside of an Ukrainian atomic power plant, in 1986. Belarus got more than 70% of the Chernobyl fallout. More than 2 million people are still living in contamined areas. More than 125,000 died and more will die. Unofficially this number rises up to 800,000. Billions of Dollars have been spent.
Now, Belarussian leader Lukachenko wants an own atomic power plant. He wants it for years now, see Here (plans for the first Belarussian atomic power plant). In his opinion atomic power is the only way to assure the national safety. Oil and Gas are not endless. Here are the first official tech-specs: one atomic power plant with 2000 Megawatt power / part of the fuel and energy-balance sheet: 14 – 15 %. Experts say the price of this kind of power will be 25 – 30 % cheaper than the planned power prices.
But, Uranium is not endless. And it is an import good.
So, the prices will rise.
