quote: IPPNW is the only international medical organization dedicated to preventing nuclear war and abolishing nuclear weapons. We recognize that the catastrophic health and environmental consequences of a nuclear war are at the extreme end of a continuum of armed violence that undermines health and security. IPPNW is committed to ending war and advancing understanding of the causes of armed conflict from a public health perspective.
On July 13th the IPPNW Co-President visited Iran to discuss with Iranian physicians and medical students. He talked about the effects of atomic bombs and that all of us should resist war.
So, which scenario is possible, if you think of an U.S. attack on Iran? Do you know the SR-Fact Sheet: »Medical Consequences of a Nuclear Attack on Iran« ? It was made by Physicians for Social Responsibility, the U.S. section of the IPPNW. It can be found here
HPAC – Hazard Prediction and Assessment Capability:
a possible scenario:
could lead to:
- six B61-11 earth-penetrating atomic weapons with a yield of 340 kt each
- dropped on: Isfahan and Natnaz (Iran)
- Result: In 48 hours -> 2,6 million deaths, fallout on India, Pakistan, Afghanistan (evacuation of the troops?), 10,5 million people injured.
This must never happen.
